Do you mean Yes, he should sell it? or, Yes keep it for it's rarity as the OP said?
Personally, I think if he's got the Legacy system, why keep the old tmcc cab1 command. It's not needed and frankly, there's so many old cab1's coming into the market place, it wont be rare for quite sometime. (However, I also thought that about K-lines low profile 027 switch )

As long as your powermasters can be addressed by Legacy, I don't see the need to keep the TMCC system. Selling the CAB1 system would be a good idea, and I'm sure you could easily find a buyer on the forums.

It really depends on what you want and what price you think you might get. Frankly with the prices not being that great you might want to hang onto it for those guests or friends that prefer the CAB1 over the Legacy. I am experiencing that now when I bring the Legacy to a show to run the layout and everyone complained. I ended up buying a CAB1L and everyone was happy and held onto it like a long lost child. Of course they would still spin the throttle wheel wildly and then panic when their trains would run out of control.....oh well.
Let me clarify my answer, it was in reference to the question of future rarity. I said NO. It's highly unlikely that the device holds any future value as a collectable. Furthermore, since the poster owns Legacy, the CabI serves no particle value, other than having additional remotes. Should he sell one? I vote YES.
Well stated Paul.

The old PowerMasters cannot be addressed by Legacy without adding a Legacy PowerMaster Bridge.
I use a CAB1 & TMCC Base on my test bench, I already have it and it's cheap to keep.
My question(s) are do you still run TMCC and do you enjoy it? What features do you feel you are not getting from TMCC that Legacy will provide? The new engines look great and you can still buy a new engine, however, will having these additional features make worth it to you.
I have Legacy and love it! I never bought TMCC because I came back to this hobby after TMCC when Legacy became available. I personally can not tell you what you are missing, however, Legacy for me is worth it.
Good Luck deciding.

Can Legacy control TMCC engines?
Can Legacy control TMCC engines?
Yes and many report it runs them better than the original cab
Can Legacy control TMCC engines?
Yes. you need to tell the remote that they are TMCC engines and it'll work fine. Most say TMCC engines run better with Legacy than the Cab-1.
IMHO, I'd keep them Doug, that's what I'm doing. They each have a purpose, and for me it'll be allowing more than one person to run trains. Being I have the Cab-1s and base already, there is no point in getting rid of them and buying a Cab1-L.
But that being said, if your PowerMasters need a new home, they are welcome in mine. I need a few of them (At least 8.) to use in a setup I am planning where the new Legacy PowerMasters will not work.
Keep 'em
Frame it and make it a Wall Sculpture instead.
My club layout has both TMCC and Legacy hooked up. The club owns both Cab-1 and Cab-2 controllers. Most operators reach for a Cab-1 before they reach to operate with a Cab-2. They find that the Cab-1 is simpler to operate than the Cab-2. It is also smaller.
Also, most members have far more TMCC engines than Legacy engines because they have been in the hobby for a long time. There is no advantage to operating a TMCC engine with the Cab-2. You only get TMCC features whether you are using a Cab-1 or Cab-2. Both control TMCC engines equally well in my experience.

Joe, that's certainly not true, at least for Odyssey I equipped locomotives. You'll find they run much better with Legacy using the TMCC setting. The old CAB1 can only address them in relative mode, and it doesn't work nearly as well.
If you keep them, but don't use them, be sure to take the batteries out. Once they leak and corrode the battery tray, you are screwed.
I kept mine, something to use under the Christmas tree or backup for a failed legacy set. Not worth very much really as I have seen like new box sets go for $75.
You can use the newly designed Legacy Powermaster with the original TMCC base and remote. It says so right on page one of the Legacy Powermaster instructions.
There's no reason to go out and by the older powermasters unless you want to save some money. The new ones are backward compatible and will have a warranty from the dealer too. Plus, if you do ever upgrade to Legacy one day, it will work with that too in Legacy mode.
You can't use the older PowerMasters with Legacy unless you add the Legacy PowerMaster Bridge however.
Or you want to do something really crazy, like run your command locomotives conventionally with a Cab-1. This is why the Legacy PowerMasters will not work for me, so I'm looking for the older ones.
