O scale is the seldom talked about cousin in the Australian toy train scene.  I have been thinking about building a layout on a ping pong table size board for some time to take to some local toy train shows.  I have the fast track pieces for the following as left overs from my home layout.  Plan is to run the upper blue level as conventional, with either a trolley or small switcher hauling a couple of cars, the two lower loops using TMCC or conventional by swapping the 5 inch connecting pieces with block sections.  The green track is a planned On30 line for a cane tram, a sight quite familiar to those of us on the east coast of Australia.  The fasttrack pieces are currently laid out on my lounge room floor to check fit and size, thinking of using Bachmann ho track for the cane line.  Thought of using a city scene in the centre of the table with the cane line running along a street section along the top straight.  Hopefully the SCARM file has attached, comments and criticisms very much encouraged

You want to lay some track out and check your clearances at the top of the plan.

FasTrack is ~3.5" (88.9mm) wide with the roadbed. Your center rail to center rail is ~4" (101.6mm) at the top.

Therefore, 1/2 of 88.9mm =44.45mm x 2=88.9mm top and bottom track leaving a 12.7mm or less clearance on the top curves. That might be an issue for two passing trains.

I hope that you have considered the logistics of transporting it. Try and get it to a one person operation.

Wonderful idea! Anytime you can take the trains to people it's a good thing! The smiles from the adults and the excitement in the children's eyes will be well worth the effort.  Take it anywhere they'll accept you. A children's hospital, community centers, etc. Most organizations will allow you and be surprised at the added value it brings to the event.

Keep us updated as you proceed.

For those who don't have SCARM, here's a jpg of the plan so you can offer comments too. Assuming the clearance issue can be solved, maybe by removing the small pieces from both the inner oval and the HO oval, I think it would make a great display layout. I would cut it in half and mount the city scene for the center on a separate removable board for transport.
