Here are some of my Repainted Prewar Lionel train in the orange and blue scheme.
Show us your Lionel Themed Orange and Blue repaints

These were all picked up as junk/parts that I found at various train shows.

All the wheels of the cars have been painted orange to help and bring out that toy tin plate look.
I had some bleed through on the masking and will be correcting later with a brush.
I used Rustoleum spray paint and waited well over a week to apply the other color, if this is not done the paint will crinkle up.

The engine is a 250 early version with a strap headlight. Just a note when doing this make sure your revere lever is not by the strap headlight. Reason is that when changing directions, you will short the revers handle to the wire connection on the headlight. The wheels and cowcatcher are painted orange.

The gondola 901 car originally had the hook type couplers, but I changed that to the CP-7 latch type couplers.
The tank Car is an early 804.
The Hoper is an early 803.
The caboose is an 807.

I will be ordering rubber stamps to label the cars that need to be re-lettered.

I am working on a 805 box car and this car has a lot of parts.

Everything comes apart, old paint stripped, metal cleaned and buffed, shell and chassis painted. The engine was completely disassembled, re wired writh supper flex wire (silicon insulator and the wire is a stranded 20 awg wire with about 120 strands). Wheels and pick up was removed. Wheel painted. This is better than new😊.                            See examples below.

Here’s my fantasy orange and blue cars. Originally bought two already painted then decided to give it a try. One car i lettered after my town. The other i lettered with my grandsons name along with numbers to state his birth date and tear. Now i just stripped the engine to be painted in the same colors....fun time

Jsulli21 looks great. Is the loco a 258 or 259e? I took a 259E shell part and it was a pain. I have anothwrv259e shell and just may take off the two square side pieces off and paint the diferantly and do some masking have to finish my box car first. Keep us updated on your loco progress.😊

Thanks Ronh. The engine is a 260e which isn’t bad disassembling so far. I did a 264e and cars which was harder. (Not orange) Won’t finish until the weather breaks as i can only paint in an unheated garage.  They say temp should be warm to paint.

249E and 2600 pullmans both before and after... Should have kept this one, I really like it.

Funny enough the guy that bought it was a Denver Bronco's fan and wanted Bronco's train lol.  I guess it was about perfect for that too.

Dennis I like the way you brought this back to life. You do very nice work on this and all of your other bring back to life trans from your other post.👍😊

I take them all apart...it's the only way to get a real nice paint job and be able to repair, clean and polish everything..  they should go back easy, just TRY to remember how they came apart!!!!

PS  I don't bend the tabs back... I twist them instead, so they don't break off.

I do the same with the tabs, what I all have been doing was to anneal the steel tabs (making them softer) by heating them up with a torch the letting the cool down slowly. So far it has been working. The only problem with this is that the tin plate will burn off, but it gets repainted.

Just finished my Lionel Prewar 805 Box Car.
These are a pain to take apart and repaint but worth it, especially with a beat-up junk car.

Still keeping with painting the wheels orange as all of my other Lionel Color paint jobs.

The masking is fun, used Rustoleum paint and waited over a week to apply the other color. if not the paint will crinkle, then you have to strip it and repaint.
Looking for a 806 Lionel cattle car.

I also have a Lionel 2660 that I mounted on a 4 wheel prewar chassis and planning to do a repaint on that along with a Lionel 259-E.
All of the repaint are done to junk items that need to be redone
