Hi, I'm currently working on a Hooterville Cannonball project in O scale, and I've been trying to find either a kit or RTR model of the passenger combine coach used in Petticoat Junction as the photo below shows. I know Roundhouse made a model of it in HO scale, but did they ever do an O scale version of it? If no model exists, what would be the best material to scratch build the car? Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks!

The Walthers kits in O Scale do show up on eBay periodically and seem to be "popular" and on the secondary markets.  Brass sets were imported years ago and those also show up on eBay and on the secondary markets.  Almost all of the metal castings for these cars and the trucks are available from Scale City Designs.

At the moment, everything is available to scratch build these cars fairly easily. Northeastern Lumber and Scale City have everything necessary for construction.

A set of MTH railking overton cars would also be a very good candidate to start with. Add a Northeastern roof, and get a few Grandt Line baggage doors (while you can), and you're in business. This is the route I'm going to go someday just because it seems like it would be a fun project.

Actually I do have two MTH railking Overton cars, they just seem a bit too large for my purposes. And I got the baggage doors from Scale City designs. Just needed that roof you were talking about but I'm waiting on a guy who's selling the combine kit before I do any scratch building.

Scale City also sells the car ends, end sills, and all the underbody bits.  Roof & floor should be readily available from Northeastern.  If you can score a Walthers kits, they are fun to build and with the parts that available, building another should be pretty easy.

Here's one of the coach kits assembled:

And here's an RPO/baggage that I scratchbuilt:

Futurerail Productions------I have just the thing you would like.   I have a like new all brass set of Sierra RR shorty coach and combine,  Both are unpainted and ready to go. They are just what you need.  I would be willing to sell or trade.  What have you?  ODD-D ROtrains@aol.com.

Don't worry I already have it covered. I just need to know what color the actual car is so I can get the paint.

Looks like either a slightly faded Penn Central green or UP's MOW green would be the closest match.

I just did some more digging and I found out the coach when it was in the show was actually more of a darker green. Probably should be accurate to the show.Hooterville_Cannonball
