Hi all,

I found a source of stud type silicon diode rectifiers at a local surplus outlet.  I chose 200V 6 Amp stud type to try.  I installed one in my ZW 250 on one side to replace a failed copper oxide disk  It works like a charm.  The whistle on all of my tenders is quicker to react, clearer & much more reliable.

Opinions?  I could have purchased higher voltage/amperage.  The cost $0.50 to $1.00.  Is it really necessary to buy 600V 40 Amp rectifiers?  I read that the only time that the high voltage/amperage is needed, is in the case of derailment when the whistle is activated.

GGG, #1 and GRJ,

thanks for the replies.  They had the 10 Amp rectifiers for the same price,  also.  I will replace the 6 amp as soon as I can get back there.  I was concerned after reading the ads recommending the much larger 600 V 40 Amp size.

I tried to replace the disk in my 1033 last night,  It connected differently than the ZW. Any advice on how the rectifier is to be connected?

gunrunnerjohn, the website doesn't come close to listing all the surplus that Mendelson's has in stock. Electronics are grouped by general type on shelving.  i.e., diode rectifiers all types, are shelved in boxes labeled with a P/N & volt/amp rating.  I know they do mail & phone orders, don't know about internet.

They are having a 1/2 price sale on all teflon clad cookware in stock, if you're interested!
