Hi everyone, I want to show you an easy project that everyone has a spot for on their layout. Lee Willis, it would be great for your trashy trailer court!
I took a die-cast pickup and used Micro-Mark "Rust n Dust" on it, removed the tires, drill holes in the bed of the truck and glued the removed tires into the bed over the holes. I then added field grass through the tires and holes in the bed. I took a piece of 5/32" square piece of stripwood (plastic may be easier to work with) and marked off four 8mm pieces. I then drilled two holes in each section using a 5/64" drill bit. Using a small square file, I reamed out all 8 holes to square them and make them a little larger. I then cut the four 8mm pieces apart and using that same file, I filed both ends of each piece to give it the concrete block look. All the pieces were then sanded and painted with Polly Scale acrylic concrete color. After the paint was dry I glued the 4 blocks onto the tire rims using CA. I also glued the axle/wheel assembly to keep the blocks perpendicular to the ground. I punched a couple of holes in my layout where the field grass in the bed would be so that it looked like the grass was growing up through the bed. By the way, a standard size concrete block is 8"" X 8" X 16" with two 4" openings. Thanks for letting me share this with all of you and I hope you can use it for your layout.
