slave board kit

The slave boards are different, I'm almost certain.  I think this question came up before.

Thanks John, I can pick up Proto sound 2.0 put not sure if I wIll be able to find a PS 2.0 slave board kit. Do you no any availability of Proto sounds 3.0 and the slave board kit for 3.0 I think also there is or was separate kit for converting the coal  turbine for DCS control or it may have taken a little extra  modification to get it to work, I can't  find the articles that I was reading on the web somewhere not too sure ?? If I find it will post here.

There is no Protosound 3 slave kit at this time.  The PS-3 Upgrade kit for diesel is PS-3 so you can't do this.  There was a tech note saying to use 2 kits and upgrade both units and use lashup or MU function.

 

Of course this may not work well on a Veranda Turbine where all 4 motors in one unit.

 

The GT Slave Kit is only sold to ASC techs, if they still have any.  Usually they make them up when sufficient orders are in place.  But PS-2 slave boards may be scarce now too.  G

 

 

I'm looking for a slave kit as well. i emailed Jeff at MTH and got no response. i want to get started on this f7 upgrade but the slave kit includes different wire harnesses for the lead a unit with a tether plug on it So all I can do is gut the locos.

In order to use a slave kit, you have to have different wiring in the master.  Since I didn't have that, I had to cobble together the harness for a master to do a master/slave setup.

 

I don't think that MTH really planned on the end user doing master/slave installations.

Im sure they didn't, I was offered the guts out of a set of FA units with a 5 volt master I am considering buying them. The slave kit I do have in my parts stash is for the UP #80 coal turbine. I wish Jeff would get back to me so I can figure out what I am going to do for this upgrade. I have the PS2 upgrade and id like to use a PS2 slave upgrade because it makes the most sense, this upgrade just came at the wrong time, everything is in limbo. The wiring harness in the master is completely different with the integrated tether socket. I was planing on using my upgrade but I may be able to use just a board set I have

FYI, Proto 2 5 volt systems and 3 volt systems use the same slave board. Part number AC-0000011.

Youre correct Marty but I dont want to upgrade a customers locos with a 5 volt board. I would like to make any problems down the road easier to solve

I think Marty's point was that the slave board is the same, so you're not really upgrading them with a 5V board.  You still can use the 3V board in the master with the slave board.

 

Im not upgrading them with a 5 volt board but the lead A unit will have a 5 volt wire harness and Im not really willing to cobble in the tether. Its a quality of work standard, I can make the 5 volt work or I can put the tether socket into the wire harness on my own stuff because it doesn't really matter that much to me but I wont cobble it together for a customer. I have to do an impeccable job

Matt, I just checked and I have a NIB (unopened) PS2 slave kit here that belongs to Member Gerry Morlitz.  Gerry told me to sell it a while ago.  Let me know if you can use it and I will confirm with Gerry.

AFAIK, there is only one "slave kit", it's generic.

 

Actually there's 2, when o ordered the one I have Jeff asked me what it was for f unit or turbine. There's no lighting in a turbine b unit just smoke n motors and the wiring for the tenders is much shorter than for a F3/7 b unit plus the tether sockets and plugs are different for a turbine since the tender only has lights and a coupler.  Plus the instructions are different. I'm sure the f unit kit has the lighting harness for the slave unit and multiple 10 pin tether sockets

There are 2 slave kits.  One for ABA and one for Turbine style engines with Trail tenders or trail power units.

 

The Slave kit comes with all the harness to modify the Lead A.  So you just need the slave kit and a PS-2 board with hardware kit/speaker and couplers.  G

 

You also can get appropriate Lead A harnesses if your scratch building.   G

You've got the correct info George, the harnesses and tethers are different between the two
