Soft key on remotefor Smoke not responding as on or off.

For keying numbers, does that key work properly?

 should I do a TIU reset or remote reset?  I have 5.0 upgrades in it.  

How about a feature engine reset? if you reset the remote everything is deleted.

Menu/advanced/ reset engine/ feature reset.... How's your track signal?

I've never seen a soft key access the smoke function.

The soft keys are used under Menu-Control-Smoke volume. The #1 key should be on/off.

The "soft keys" are the 5 across the top row.  They are "soft" because you can select the function for each. 

If same problem on several engines, a reset of locos won't solve issue.  Answer Gunrunner's question above. 

I would not, at this point, do any resetting of the remote, pending further analysis.

Picky  but aren't the key numbers "hard keys"    Smoke is number 1    2 vol etc.   I don't think I've seen a soft-key for smoke except under the control menu for setting the amount.

I would feature reset the engine.

Real easy as I use button that's numbered 1 that's labeled SMOKE!

Buttons S! thru S5 are soft keys.

Okay smart-*** show me a display where any of the 5 buttons that are marked SOFTKEYS which is item 3 from the top right hand side are used to control the SMOKE function!!

Last I knew it was button number 1

No need to get all bent out of shape.  FYI, the definition of a "softkey" is any key that has multiple program controlled functions. 

Since you really didn't have a dog in this fight in any case, I don't know why you're getting all hot-n-bothered.

Ok. I messed up I meant #1 on pad. At first no smoke.  Now The remote is not showing active engines.  So I reset the remote. Wiped out all.  Now can't find any engine I put on track.  Lock on is lit. So power is there.   I tried the wifi and phone. Won't find any active engines or allow adding of new engines.  I switched my variable 1 to fixed.  Nothing still.  This tiu is not a rev l.    It ran fine only a week ago.   Tell me this.  Once you use the wifi... can you also use remote if the wifi is unplugged?  Or does it do something to the tiu??  Hmm  

I also did feature reset on tiu.. not a factory reset in fear the version 5.0 would go.  

Maybe I have to factory reset it all and reprogram from laptop loading the programs?  Thanks

Factory reset of the remote or the TIU will not change the software version, I do them all the time.  All it does is remove the user entered data.

Unless you have a bunch of engines stored in it, I'd consider just resetting the remote and TIU and starting over.  Also, make sure you go and program the DCS configuration for all channels.  If you still can't find any engines, try a different channel.  You're trying to add them and not finding them, right?

Back to the beginning... How many LED blinks on powering up the tIU?  Does the read find the TIU?

Maybe I have to factory reset it all and reprogram from laptop loading the programs?  Thanks

Ok. I get 1 blink. Track power kicks on. I now get no engine to add message on the mth remote when I try to add engine.

I reset the remote. So nothing is stored. But now I can't get any engine to load. Just says no engine to add.   Do you mean by programming all variable channels to fixed? 

Menu, System, DCS Setup, and press S3, AON.

That turn the DCS signal on for all channels.

Try different channels to see if the issue is just one channel or all of them.

Wait a minute... The tiu blinks  once and the remote was reset so a read should find TIU #1... Does it?

back to the engines  on tiu power up.... Dark & silent?  

I have to do a read. ill be doing this tonight.

I reset tiu.  Set all channels to on..   var. 2 channel fixed.  No engine to add message.  Same with all.    The channels are powering the track.. yet I can get an engine.  I put my ps3 amtrak on.  Live.  So it's powered up by itself.  But I tried to search for it and.   Says no engine to add...    

How many engines did you try?  If it's just one, it could be the engine.

OK   How about 1 transformer 1 remote 4 new batteries 1TIU 1 channel 1 piece of track 1 engine ?

 Go for it. You do have the red tiu output to the center rail?   If not that would screw it up. If the engines are starting up with sounds and lights I think you're beat at least on fixed 1.

That's one engine that you know for sure is 100% functional.

I usually test them on my workbench, it has one 40" piece of Atlas track.  I also load sound files there, and I use a DC supply for loading, really solves a lot of loading issues.

Who knows. I'm going to pull the tiu off and get a good test track and hook it up there. What a strange thing.  I have tried 4 engines won't pick up any.  Ps2 and ps3.  It all started with the smoke on and off not working. To resetting it all and nothing is working.  

The only reason the ps3 engine came on is because I set it on the track while power was on.  It just started up.  But no control other than the horn!!! Wierd!  Explain that!   

Maybe I should power on with a wall wart. Don't put power to fixed 1. Use the other channels.  I don't know.   Looks like I might pull out my other tiu.  I may try to reload 5.0 from the laptop... 

Just an update.. I hooked up the TIU to my computer and reprogrammed 5.0 back in. It accepted it.  So now I'll hook it back up and see.  I read in the companion that when it says "no engine to add" it might be my signal strength.  First I'm going to run a track signal. Maybe somethings going on there.

Well I hooked it to test track. Figuring my signal was bad.  Nothing.  Won't find any engine.  I tried all channels. Cranked up variable channel voltage.  17 volts.  I just don't know. Guess it's shot.
