CW, GRL, Rob, et al. - do any of you have a Lionel 263E parts list you would be willing to share? One of the more obvious needs I have is the trailing wheels for this engine. Although the bracket for the trailing wheels was on the engine when I bought it, the wheels and axle were just loose in the box, so I can't even be sure the wheels are the correct style - I have seen spoked wheels on some other versions. I would also be curious to know if there's a way to pin down the year this unit was manufactured?

Thank you!

Thanks Rick. that was very helpful.

Dennis, thanks for the info. Now I'm wondering if I should even change out the wheels. I bought this train along with some other PW stuff as a package deal, and I really am not interested in keeping it. I'm wondering if I ought to just leave it as is, or fix things up a bit before I try to sell it.

Well, thanks again! I guess I'll figure it out

If you are going to sell it, I'd leave it up to the buyer to decide whether they want good wheels to run it or originals.

I think I agree. Immediately after buying this, I HAD to run it - it's the operator thing...... When I did, I found that it had reverse and neutral only - one brief spurt of forward, and that was it - and it ran poorly in reverse. So I HAD to fix it. After a thorough motor and e-unit cleaning, I reassembled using the original brushes (good condition) and VERY lightly oiled the mechanisms. It now runs like a champ. I would normally replace the brushes on ANY repair, but again, trying to keep things original, no parts were replaced on the engine, only cleaned.

That said, there are other things that still need attention, like the trailing wheels obviously - it needs to be cleaned (all original dirt is still intact) and it needs bulbs replaced and definitely needs some new cloth covered wiring. I have not done any of that at this point, thinking the same way you do about the buyer wanting to do it his way, so.... that's where things stand. I guess the next step is to get it appraised by someone who's better at that than me. And if I don't like the appraisal, then guess what - I'll just keep it!!

Thanks!

One final shot on this thread. The only cleaning done was to the the motor and drive mech, the cars did not get lubed, so the poor engine is dragging like 20 lbs behind it!! As I fired it up the first time and listened to the silky smooth motor and mechanisms churning away, I could feel the pride a 10 year old would feel as that beautiful blue train ran round the tracks with the sexy red glow of the firebox chasing after it. What a beautiful train this is! I'll bet it will look amazing all cleaned up with all the cars illuminated. Watch it here

That is a gem for sure.  Are you sure you really want to sell it? I'm still collecting parts to put mine back together...  Your lucky yours has a good frame!  Mine was toast.  I'll use the MTH Blue frame unless I can find an original.  The rest is really nice though.  It's amazing how much these frames can grow with the pest...

Good luck which ever way you choose to go!
