First off, I'd check the speaker!  Make SURE it's not flaking, it's my top suspect.

I ordered a new speaker after looking through some back posts.
I’ll report back after I swap it out.

Here’s a pic of the speaker. There does look to be flaking. Could that cause the low volume?

That speaker is bad. I'd replace it before powering that engine up again.

I have a question about the replacement. It comes with black/red wires and the original are yellow/white. When I splice the new speaker wires to the MTH plug, does it matter which wires on the speaker connect to the MTH plug? As in red of new to white or yellow of MTH plug. Thanks

That is one nasty looking speaker. 😖  I've had flaky speakers but this one wins the flake prize. 😨

It doesn't matter for a single speaker.  Typically, the yellow wire goes to the + terminal on the speaker.

Update

New speaker and proper sound is restored. Thanks to all who offered advice. This forum is an invaluable source of information and help.

The only other issue I have is that the “Info” screen shows Battery low. I did externally charge the battery and a checked the battery voltage while the train was idling and it was around 10v

2032 - Regarding your concern about the battery strength, you may want to consider replacing the battery with a Battery Component Replacement (aka BCR) and then you'll never have to replace the battery ever again.  Just power up the engine in idle - at more than 10 volts - for 1 minute BEFORE each operating session and off you go!

The battery is new. I’ll switch to the BCR when this battery dies.
