You cannot go wrong working with George at ITT Products.  He's the best, as are his soundboards.

And, want something special?...something not available from his standard menu?...something evern personalized with your name or, based on the vignette, your buddy/wife/kid(s), etc.?   If George can record it in 60 seconds or less (chip capacity), he'll do it at minimal (sometimes zero) added cost.

Examples...  A member of our staff (LHS) created a vignette featuring a hobo camp with a derelict boxcar.  If you slide the boxcar door shut, it starts a custom sound track by ITT Products wherein the guy inside the boxcar is complaining to the other hobos!  He's calling them out by names....of the staff member's railroading buddies!!!...with a bunch of hootin' and hollerin' going on.   Classic!!!

Second example...  I built Sylvan's 1:48 tugboat.  It's roomy enough for a speaker.  The tug also has a single chime tooter for a whistle, unlike any in George's repertoire.  So I found a whistle manufacturer's website that had sample sounds for all their products.  I chose one that sounded like 'Scuffy'.  I had George add it to some harbor sounds...seagulls, sloshing bow waves, burbling diesel, periodic buoy bell, and an 'Ahoy' to boot.   He nailed it on the first try....in less than 48 hours via email for approval.  NO added charge.

Need more?....I think you get the picture.

So, if sound is so 'red-hot' for having on your $$$$ Vision/Premier/ 2-4-6-8 articulated, why not add it to your creations....scenery vignettes, traditional accessories, etc.??

I found a CD on Amazon of Tennessee creek and bird sounds with no narration. It's on the way but I plan on putting a CD player under the benchwork for the next op session after I can get that done.

Also, I have a 'white noise' device that has various sounds including a creek sound in a loop. I'm thinking of stuffing that under a back corner and turning it on the next time I run trains, just for the heck of it.

All my locos have sound, so I try to always use that to effect as well.

I have, however, seen layouts that go way overboard with sound. Years ago in the northeast, I saw one that had a steel mill and the piped sounds were so loud, you have to yell to be heard anywhere near it.

There are 6 distinct areas here and each one could benefit from its own sounds that's why I was looking for something that could be motion activated as you walk by that area plus I would like some everyday country sounds like you're referring to to play as background occasionally. Sometimes I turn off the locomotive sounds to get a little peace and quiet.

Do you know if these can be activated and deactivated by some sort of motion sensors so they turn of and on when you walk by? If i read right it looks like it with the PRICOM stuff at least. I haven't read the ITT info yet..just browsed some of the sound files

Thanks

Yes, of course.  Actually, the soundboards can be activated by any triggering device, including a simple push button.  But, if you're in doubt about the connection between sensor and soundboard, just ask George.....he'll help you through it!

Remember, you'll need a speaker (8-ohm) and speaker enclosure in addition to the board and trigger.  ITT also sells enclosed speakers, if that's your preference.

BTW...have you played some of the sounds on the ITT website menu?...........lots of classic and....hmmmm, how shall we say?....'interesting' sounds to choose from!

Have fun.....it goes with our hobby!

I did ..I'm starting out with the night sounds with a stream since the layout has a large river and will go from there..Like the eulogy and rock of ages so much I may have to put a church somewhere on the layout if I can find room. I read a little more and will probably put the motion detectors about knee high. I won't know until I get a couple of these installed how the sound carries here so maybe if they're not too loud the layout may be large enough to let them all play at once.  I agree with you ..some interesting sound files that i may use with a push button

Thanks

joe
