When downloading Sound files to a engine that are from the same model but different Cab number, does the cab number change or stay the same? I suspect the download is not working, even though it shows download complete.
No, cab number (and also engine name) is only modified by using the MTH DCS service loader, a software tool the consumer does not have access to. Again, this is a function only authorized service techs have access to perform.
Again, when you the consumer change a sound file or any file for that matter including chain files, the name, the cab number, the serial number, the mileage and hours are not changeable by you the consumer in the engine.
CAVEAT- yes, in the remote or app you can edit or rename an engine in that remote or app for that engine ID and that overlays or displays that edited name- but at the core of this, nothing changed in the engine, and so if you delete or add to another remote that engine- when it performs the add engine function- the name as stored in the engine is what comes back up.
The only other exception to this is that Upgrade kits both PS2 and PS3 had special chain files that allowed the name change operation of the remote or app to save the name in the engine. However, this too can get erased when an engine is reset to factory defaults- this stored name and road number is lost. Basically, it was a special case where upgrade kits gave slightly more power to the user to save a name and road number, but even then it was not permanent and a reset could send it back to completely blank no name. This is why sometimes when adding an upgraded engine that has a PS2 or PS3 upgrade kit installed, the engine has no name and no road number.
