I have an MTH PS2 engine (30-4094-1) brought to me that has a 5 volt board. The engine will power up and make sounds but it won't move in conventional or DCS mode (It's not the battery, I checked). You can hear the directional relay click when you cycle through the direction and when you command it to move the amp meter stays idle at 0.7 amps. The board (most likely the motor FET) is dead.
Looking to upgrade this with a newer PS3 board or just do a shell swap with another Railking 4-6-0. I was on the MTH website and noticed they did make an upgrade file for it. I would assume that it is a 3 volt file compatible with PS2 3v & PS3 boards because the upgrade file ends with "_3V" before the .mth extension. See below:
The original file is on top and the upgrade is on the bottom. Slightly surprised that MTH didn't change the file name to indicate a 3 volt compatibility when the upgrade file was created albeit less noticeable. (e.g. r032sf3460jdeerjdc030807afin)
I may look into fixing the FET but these older 5 volt boards just are not worth much time anymore. Just looking for confirmation that I can safely use the upgrade file on a newer board.
