Space connectors

First use the 18 ga crimp spades or smaller. I do not like the insulated spades because you cannot get a superior crimp with that plastic in the way. If you have to insulate (and you don't when using barrier strips) use some heat shrink put on before the crimp, move it into place, and shrink. Strip the 22 ga wire somewhat long and fold the bare wire over once before you insert it into the connector. That will increase it's diameter.

I use a heavy crimp tool like GB or Channel Lock. When you crimp, place the connector in the die so that the pointy side of the die is against the smooth side of the connector round part...leaving the part of the connector that has the joint against the smooth side of the die. That will get you the best crimp.

Klein tool also makes a good crimper.

For under table connections I use european style terminal boards wherever I can. This allows me to use ferrules in place of spade connects. Below are some pictures to show you what I mean. They are insulated but you are crimping the metal portion. You do however need to purchase a crimping tool. I buy everything from ferrules direct.

By the way, you can buy jumper strips for these euro connectors. They can be cut to any length if you say buy the 12 or so pin ones. Much easier to jumper a number of connections together. There was a thread on this...I'll look for it.

Joe, that tool is similar to a ground conductor crimping tool used in electrical work. I have used that for a number of years for connecting grounds so they do not come apart.  I have heard of the connector you are talking about and this is the first time I have seen it. Looks good.
