Speaker Noise from Engines

I have 2 engines that have a similar issue and trying get some ideas on what to do.

 

First is a PS2 MTH engine that still has noise coming out of the speaker when I turn the Engine sounds off.  Almost sounds like white noise or a very low level engine sound. Probably closer to white noise.

 

Second is a Legacy diesel engine.  When I turn the engine sound completely off, it seems like the engine sound is still coming out but very low volume.  This definitely sounds like the engine when stopped on track.  When trains are running, the track noise drowns both the engines out.

 

All other engines seem to work OK.  I think there is something like 14 others and they work properly.

 

I suspect that either a wire is pinched or possibly shorted.  I guess also it could be a loose connector too that is causing a grounding issue.  Any suggestions on what to check?  Both of these can be aggravating when I am running trains.

When you say "completely off", turning the volume down all the way? or after you do the AUX5 shutdown.

 

IMO if all 15 of your engines are sitting on the layout powered even when not in use. its not a good idea.

 

I park unused locos, operating cars, etc. on a siding or yard that I can toggle off. This reduces the risk of damaging electronics of several locos during a short.

For the Legacy, when I have engine sound volume all the way down and in running mode.

 

For the MTH, when I have engine sounds off, in running mode, and the volume is above "0".

 

With how finicky the DCS is for MUs, I have the whole system powered up.  If not, one of the engines receives the watch dog and the other one doesn't.  The only way to correct this easily is to turn power off, wait, and power it back on.  I wish there was a way to tell the TIU to send the watchdog again.  Also, in my running, I usually run a major portion of them.
