Staining MDF Base

Hi Everyone,

i just just recently purchased the Altoona modelworks single stall engine house kit and it has a milled mdf base with laser etched planking. I want the floor of the house to be stained aged wood. I was going to use hunterline stains. My question is should I stain the mdf, or should I use strip wood and just glue it over the mdf, then stain that? I've never stained mdf before and would hate to have it fall apart or anything. Any advice?

Hi

I am working a lot with MDF and the best result is using acrylic paint diluted in water,

different grade of brown and black will give you a nice tone.
