This week on Tuesday I visited the Stamford model RR club. This as a 2 rail club which has been in existence for a long time and one member John Walters is now a 50 year member. Truly an outstanding layout and very well detailed. If your in the area contact them through their website and pay them  visit. you will be impressed!!!!  here are the links to 2 videos i took  Steve

Visited the layout many years ago when I was starting out. Haven't read much on them lately. Good to see it's still active.

Steve, the pictures bring back memories. The thing that I always remember is that it resides in the basement of a church. Looks like your typical older northeast basement with a train layout. Except it's probably the biggest one you will ever see.

I visited the club during the 2009 NMRA Hartford Convention.  It is a large layout with impressive modeling.  It is a tribute to the members and to the church to keep the layout going for over 50 years.  As a NH modeler, I especially liked the focus on the NH and other New England railroads.  I don't understand why the videos are showcasing a SP cab forward with a Pacific Fruit Express train.  The cab forward and the train is about 3,000 miles from home rails.

The layout has drawbacks since it was built so many years ago.  You can't walk along with your train.  People have to crawl on their hands and knees to get around the layout.  The layout was controlled by a central cab with a block control system in 2009.  I think it would be difficult to run trains using DCC or another command system.  Lighting in the basement was poor by modern standards in 2009 for my aging eyes.

The craftsmanship of the models is outstanding.  This layout is well worth the visit if you are in the area.  I hope to visit again someday.

NH Joe
