I used to have several Plasticville buildings on my original layout. Then began scratch building and changed over. Plasticville buildings are great for a quick, easy and inexpensive way to start building a town and many of them have been kit bashed, and painted for improved realism.  If you like  pre-built or easy to assemble structures Ameritowne, Woodland Scenics and Menard's make some really good ones. Good luck building the layout.

That looks to be a great start!  I'm working out a plan to do a basic O-27 layout, but using all Plasticville buildings for the most part.

My inspiration came from seeing an HO set that Life-Like once offered, which had a basic HO steam engine and Norman Rockwell boxcars.  It also came with a grass mat, scenic materials like lichen and buildings to look like small-town America (church, general store, etc.)

So my plan is to do a small layout like that, but for O-27.  Have some of the Cape Cod houses, the cathedral, Suburban Station, 5 & 10 Store, etc.  Just a small layout to have fun making and running some smaller O trains on.

Great! Good luck growing your town. I have about 70 PV buildings on my layout, because my" thing" is to recreate a 50's layout look. They are a bit undersized for O Gauge, but that is part of their charm. They have been described as "S Gauge buildings with O Gauge doors".  Scale-wise, they do very well and probably best with S Gauge. That coaling tower is one of their best models, IMHO.

When I started my layout 4 years ago I was recreating my brothers and mine layout from the late 1950's. That meant Plasticville buildings, which now total 36. I have a Menards Hobby Shop and 2 Dept. 56 buildings but my heart is in Plasticville. My 3 favorites are the 2 fire stations and big gas station that I gave a little rattle can personnel touch to.  Enjoy yours Larry.

Larry, I amin the process of finishing the basement on our new house and in the plans is horseshoe shaped layout appts 40 x18 and I am going to have a corner section dedicated to my ,opps my dad's plasticville we used since I was a kid in Pittsburgh in his memory. They have not been unpacked in almost 30 years and I am not sure how many pieces I have just know there are 3boxes of it. I am looking forward to unpacking them and getting them out so Good Luck and Good Hunting for plasticville.

I bought boxes and boxes of new and used Plasticville for my old layout but never finished it because of a move from the basement to the bonus room above the garage.  On the new layout we have the bank and switch tower so far and I've modified and electrified both of them, here's the bank.....

Good luck on your layout Larry!

Thanks for the kind comments.  Here is a pic of my layout. It is as big as I can make it right now.IMG_20180110_144355581

Not big, but big enough for me.  It is in my 2nd bedroom with my office stuff and computer.

"big enough for me"  That is the key! Hope you enjoy it!!
