Thanks Peter,

You're right, they are a little pricey, ouch!

Maybe someone on the board has one of these books already and can help me out. I have limited space, basically 4'x6' and that's it for this layout. So I don't need track plans for anything massive.

samdjr74, It's amazing what Roger Carp's book is going for now. I tried to sell mine on the forum some time back ($10.00). I had no takers. It's been packed away ever since. It will take some time for me to locate. I have some Lionel material from the 1920's that show layout diagrams in both Std & O-Gauge. It tells exactly how many pieces of track needed to do the layouts in both Std & O-Gauge. My contact information is in my profile if you're interested.

Thanks Pappy, if it's boxed up no worries, but thanks for the offer.

I think the twice arounds are fun and would show off the Std. gauge well. It will look real busy in a small area.

I am looking at another source. may take a day or two for something more traditional.

Sam, I have Roger Carp's book on dealer display layouts, I'm trying to figure out how I can help.  I'm sure the forum would frown on wholesale posting of the book's pages for copyright reasons, but "fair use" provisions allow reproducing a small number of pages if we can narrow it down.

The first part of the book is mostly text, a general historical narrative.

The second part of the book has color pictures of some of the surviving displays, one is  standard gauge but it is just a simple oval, the attraction of the display comes from other elements.

The third part is about construction techniques for building your own, which seem to be generic enough information that could be obtained elsewhere.

Part four is the main part of the book, and consists of B&W photographs, track plans, and wiring diagrams for many display layouts. Also materials/component lists for each display layout.  There are close to 50 pages of this. The information on each display is a 2-page spread.  As far as I can see, they are all O Gauge.

Not sure how to narrow these down.  The displays are numbered (D-133, D-190, D225, etc.).  If you had enough information from other sources to know which display you were interested in, I could either post or email you the pages on that layout.

I know that in past threads, some forum members are familiar with some of the D- numbered layouts and have favorite ones to recommend.

There's also another more recent Roger Carp book, "Lionel Showroom Layouts", that includes a modestly-sized Standard Gauge layout in the early chapter.  I'm pretty sure that book is still in print for $9.95

P.S.  Sorry, I just re-read your earlier post about only having space for a 4x6 layout.  Scratch the Roger Carp book then, unless you just want to get ideas.  Very nicely written.
