Good morning, steam crazies!  Two weeks ago, I posted my Lionel Mohawk and said I’d post a video with its “haunting” whistle.  That idea sounded so good I decided to post a “symphony” (Patrick, my apologies for the loose use of this term) of steam whistles from a selection of my steam fleet.

So…without further fanfare, let’s turn down the lights and raise the curtain!  These steam whistles are “music to my ears”.  I hope they’re music to your ears, too!

Steam Up! Thanks Arnold. Steam is King today here in Farmingdale NJ. On Main 1 is Lionel #9631 2-8-2 Mikado w TMCC on the point of PRR The Senator.

On Main 2 is Lionel #5741 4-6-0 with legacy on the point of an auto train.

On the local track is Lionel Post War # 2046 with a consist of Lionel Post War 2400 passenger cars.

Love this! Bravo John! This is one of the most original and entertaining Forum posts I’ve ever seen since I joined the Forum in November 2017.
Would love to simultaneous hear these whistles, maybe you can get them to sing harmony, John.

Photos/videos show my Lionel Legacy model (2231120) of New York Central 2-8-0 Consolidation #960 on my 12’-by-8’ layout.

The real New York Central #960 was a class G-6i locomotive built for subsidiary Michigan Central as #7812 by Alco (Brooks Works) in June 1909 and scrapped as NYC #1195 in 1954. Unfortunately, the prototype of Lionel’s model was not that engine but actually was a Southern Pacific Harriman Consolidation that burned oil and had a Vanderbilt tender. I try to avoid buying non-prototypical models but this one is quite good looking in my opinion, so I bought it anyway…

@Steam Crazy - Great Sounds !  Somebody had to do it so I did, got all those whistles blowing together!!  It was GREAT!  Thanks for the sound display.

For me today, a "blast from the past" ...this is an American Flyer (Chicago Flyer) , type X steam locomotive, #3308 from 1932,  and at 92 years old, she still runs fine.

Don, glad you enjoyed the show!  You motivated me to try all the whistles together, too;  the word "cacophony" comes to mind.  I was thinking of recording it for Halloween, but I think it would scare the kids away!

John - no apology needed!   I like your symphony of steam whistles!!   To my ears, there's nothing quite like the sound of a steam locomotive's whistle.  The sound always brings a smile to my face while stirring by soul!  I particularly like numbers 2 and 4 in your line up from top to bottom.   Thanks for taking the time to set up the locos and record all of them!
