Here are a few photos from my somewhat completed J&L Steel Southside Works in Pittsburgh. All structures in these photos are scratch built on an 8 by 8 piece of 3/4 inch plywood.

nicely done! were these kits, or did you scratch build? Growing up in The Ohio Valley, and seeing many of the Wheeling Pitt,J&L,Weirton Steel Mills, and now most are history, yours looks great!
Nice !!
Nice job!!! Have a better pic of the hot metal car on the left with the skull?
Good looking structures and flowing hot metal. Is the hot metal car stationary?
Jack
Excellent work!

Thanks for the kind words.
Steamer, all structures are scratch built.
Bessemer, I don't currently have a better picture of the hot metal car with the skull residue. My photography skills in getting something on the internet are non existent and I was only able to post these photos as my son was home for Christmas (from Pittsburgh) and took them with his I-phone. The next time he is home I will have him take a photo showing the detail. Nothing real difficult though. I covered the top of the hot metal car around the opening with a thin layer of Mortite rope caulk, pressed ballast into the Mortite, and painted it black/gray with some highlights dry brushed on.
Dr. Jack - the slag cars can be moved. The pouring "slag" is simply a piece of shaped translucent plastic wrap with an LED behind it so it can be taken out of the slag car, the car ladle returned to it's upright position and the cars can be moved along the track.
WOW!!!....beautiful and I especially like the way you modeled the hot pours...very nice.

This is great! Reminds me of ARMCO steel (now AK steel) in the northeastern corner of Kentucky.
DRC, great looking mill.

Really love the Slag car pouring out the waste. The lighted effect is well done
Great detail. the way you made the glowing pour is fantastic.
Always nice to get positive feedback, especially from Forum members. I've got a couple of other photos that my son took and I'll see if I can get those posted,
DRC,
Very nice job on the mill. I really like the brick pillars supporting the blast furnace building.

Well Done.Good looking mill
An old mill so you need more dust, dirt and a smoke machine to make all the old mill workers home sick. Nice model of a difficult subject.
Excellent work. Could you provide some more daylight images?
Wow • Excellent modeling skills & photos on this project, J&L Steel South Side Works in Pittsburgh. Like all the scratch building.
Moving steel on a Sunday morning, at least it is time and a half today!!
Jeff
Very nicely done. You have lots of hours in that project. Excellent embankment in the last photo.
Their are a couple of threads about taking pictures on this forum. You don't have to be a pro. But, I would really enjoy seeing more of the detail in your work and you will love the feedback the forum members provide.
This is a good video about taking pictures by one of our members:
