Studio Shots: 3rd Rail E5 Red Nose
"Think rich, look poor", proclaimed Andy Warhol in the early 1970s. It is perfectly sensible to use that very same statement to describe the late era, red nosed E5s. The regal elegance they once radiated, while still perceivable, was mostly gone. Most of its ornaments, tossed away. But like a good paintings, peeled and cracked by time, their original beauty still shined through.
We're very luck to now have an accurate depiction of these 1960s famous diesels in O scale plastic. While we couldn't cover as much ground as we did with the black nose rendition, this factory-delivered replica was a great base model for anyone wanting to go the extra mile. Some of the upgrades performed to this particular model include: prototype accurate pilot detailing, flat aluminum painting applied where prototypical including wheel faces, repainted name placard to better resemble body color, minimal engine room details including engine lights, body frame bracing where prototypical, anti-glare windshield gasket, speed recorder cable, cab shades, horn cords, wind deflectors, prototypical light package with incandescent bulbs throughout, airlines, MU lines, steam line, and coupler cut bars.
