I purchased the Suncoast kit and assembled for a customer. I also wanted one for myself so scratched built it along side the kit. Attached is a PDF file showing the construction technique. One thing I did find out is if built to instruction sheet the kit tower is not tall enough for the newer locomotives - see below. Since I will be backing in hoppers and gondolas I kept this tower for myself. My customer however will be passing locomotives underneath the tower so as shown in the PDF file I re-designed his tower to be taller.

I think the plan for the kit is that only hoppers go underneath to unload and locos are serviced on the side.    I have one that was assembled by a friend and there are no coal chutes underneath, they are on the side.    If you look at the framing in the photo, you can see how the coal bin would be supported starting high on the left and dropping down to the right.

Looking at your photo, the loco service track would be to the right of the tower, and the hoppers underneath, and elevator to haul coal to the top would be where your Gon is on the track.    I do not see the elevator/conveyor shaft in the photo.

However  you can custom built it anyway  you like.

I agree the hoopers go under the tower. That said it would be cool if an engine could fit under the tower. Joe you did an excellent job with your modifications and I might try your pdf and mods. Thank you !
