Figured to start ugly before the pros show some real stuff.

Showing my attempt to structure and scenic the far distant corners of my little 9x16 round-the-room layout. In one corner, I am working to finally find a place for my model of a Frick Sawmill that has rested under layouts for 15 years. The foam foothills and tunnel entrance to nowhere I am working on are velcro-ed to the wall panels so I can remove them for further carving surgery and placement of some real rocks, and ground cover.

Working corners is a "reach" so I install risers between the tracks to support a plywood "working" platform for my 217 lbs of former muscle. The "other" corner showing the work platform is primarily some mock-up footprints of structures and fronts for a Textile Mill and Village that Joe Fauty of Model Structures has in process. Smokestack by Harry Hieke.

My little playground module has a bunch of first's for me.

The trees are the rope trees. A stick from the backyard. Rope for

the branches with a little spackle and paint. The main foliage is

steel wool.

The schoolhouse is actually a church. A laser kit.

You probably reconise the Lionel playground set.

The dad is chasing the kids around the tree.

( a DVD with a motor under it. )

Yes homework is spelled wrong. ( on purpose )

Guess those 2 kids need to stay in school.

finally at the push of a button the whole scene is animated

for 20 seconds and then shuts off...

comments criticisms suggestions all welcome...

Bruce..

Just spent the last 3 weeks driving around observing real scenery (6014 miles worth):

RG 025

RG 026

RG 027

Realized that my versions should be a little more unbelievable-looking to be believable!

I do need a higher ceiling in my basement though.  Royal Gorge in Colorado - those are railroad tracks and the Arkansas River at the bottom.

GEF...wow you are really going to town. Your row houses have come a long way since the other day!

Steve.....Just as amazing as the rest of your work. I believe it's time to move on. We can all agree that you have the freight car weathering mastered! I would like to see you do a steam engine and a diesel. In fact how about a "how to" series on wethering some die cast vehicles?

Dewey.....Don't make so much of only having a 9' x 16' layout. I have 4' x 8' to work with. The important thing is that you are enjoying yourself and you obviously are. My space is mainly for the 19 month old granddaughter so it is just fine in her eyes.

Vulcan......another "no show" for you this week. Man those basements will never get finished at this rate. You OK pal?

I have been learning "ballasting" and grade crossing skills. Using Brennan's Ballast and like others have said in the past, this stuff if great looking. As for the Jag in the picture it has a special place in another forum members heart and it was a gift from him to me so I had to get it into the picture.

Don't count me out yet, Ken.

I had to fight off a migraine, started taking pics, the low battery icon started flashing so I put it on the charger. Ran into town to get some new blades for the riding mower, 'cause I bent the heck out of one of them yesterday.

But I'm OK.

Nice looking crossing and row houses and switch tower.

Ok, some progress on the basements.

Added the grate to the drain in the barbershop basement.

drain

Finished an unfinished room in the bar basement. (We'll have to wait and see what that room is for).  And what you can't see, there's a stairwell beyond the exterior door.

The beginnings of the laundry room in the apartments basement.

The door to nowhere.

A couple of Captain's trunks and newspaper bundles (these may relocate).

And the very early beginnings of the steam boiler (furnace).

Gotta run, gotta mower to fix.

The three houses are Weaver company row houses. I got the idea from an HO scale modular group layout that comes to the Great Scale show in Timonium, MD.

Norm Charbonneau has used these buildings in his masterpiece of a layout. His work has inspired me to attempt to model anthracite coal region railroading.

The other buildings are kitbashed using a variety of HO scale buildings and an old Lionel engine shed. I wanted a scene similar to the picture below of buildings in Pottsville, PA.
