Good Day to Everyone!  I will start off with a couple of pictures I took this morning that many of you may be saying...."What, more of those again!??".  I just think the morning sunrise over the railroad really highlights certain aspects of it so please forgive my repeat performance.  Hopefully these shots are a little different in various ways from those previously posted....By the way, if you right click on a picture and then click "open link in new window", you will get a full screen shot.

Thanks,

Alan

Vulcan & Alan - amazing pictures and modeling!  Not that we'd expect anything less, of course!

I've had a busy end to the summer and haven't made much progress on the coal ramp.  I did manage to create some supports for the rail ends which give it a "beefier" look.

The evolving landscape:

A city is abandoned.

np 001

Tectonic plates move and mountains are uplifted over geologic time (well, about a day and a half in this case).

np 002

Not sure about the geologic analogy for this one!

np 003

Thousands of years pass as rocks weather into fertile soil.

np 004

Grasses cover the new land:

np 005

More greenery as the rivers carve new channels:

np 006

Explorers discover the new land. A railroad is built through the landscape and the cycle begins again!

np 007

OK, so most houses like the very, very old mill don't survive through geologic eras ........and tunnel portals aren't usually created at the same time as the mountains ... but you get the idea.

Next week .... a city is reborn.

Justin,

My workers have been stuck on this floor for 5 years now. Of course, I guess moving the entire city twice in that time didn't help the construction schedule any.

Also, they were only provided with Plastruct ABS plastic shapes instead of a girder kit. When my boys saw what Alan's crew was using, we had a few union problems to delay things too.

Alan- thank you! That is exactly what i was looking for! Jim- thats the one i have seen in pics before! But i thought you had bar trusses spanning the first floor. I have several of these kits, i also purchased several 1/2" bar trusses from plastruct. Im going to make it like 5-8 stories w/ first floor 90% complete then second floor about half way then still have ironworkers placing beams & girders on the upper floors. Thanks for all your wonderful inspiration!!!

Mike it is a one of a kind.  It's made from sintra which is a pvc plastic used in the sign industry.  It comes in 4'x8' sheets in different thicknesses and colors.

The neat part of working with pvc plastic is the low cost of the glue!  You use the big can of goop found in your local hardware stores plumbing department.  Russ
