Sunday Scenic Showcase April 5,2020

Nothing special here.....these buildings will be included in the modular groups 2020 raffle. However, it's the 1st time I used my magnets.....A gift from my wife for my birthday. They are really great and I highly recommend them......

Continued working on the peninsula scenery this past week.  The second step after applying the scenery base was to break up the smooth top of the hillside.  I hot glued small foam chunks to the top edge that will give a more natural back ground appearance once trees are installed:

I then began to install trees over the next few days.  Altogether, I refurbished over 400 that I had left over from my previous O gauge hi-rail layout.  Two in process photos:

This is what the peninsula looks like with the trees installed:  The next step is to clean up all the installation "damage" and move into the more detailed scenicking steps:

Alan amazing work. I really like that Wilson building. I have made my own potato sacks and more trees, sacks still need design.

The devil is in the details so I ordered a few Bar Mills items from Scenic Express this week. They shipped real fast so Friday and Saturday I painted them. They will be added to to scenes on my home layout this week.  These resin castings come in Gray-tone and accept Acrylic paints fairly well and two coats will suffice.

(BTW the hand trucks are metal castings)

Here are some progress shots of the stages of a new section I am working on. This filled a 2’X2’ gap that served as a duckunder for a while. I’m not sure what the DD kit on the hill will serve as. I was thinking it looked like a bit like an old public school or some other institution. I have a small plot of land ready for another house I plan on scratchbuilding.

With a little help from my forum friends, I've made progress adding graphics and interior to the A&W root beer stand.  Two coats of Dullcoat over the paper signs seems to work well...  Worker figures inside need a repaint as they are repurposed from another modeler's construction scene.

Alan and all, Wow ! What a wonderful Sunday Scenic Showcase.  Alan are you sure that Wilson building isn't a real one that you Photoshopped into your house locations??    Seriously, just amazing detail, looks so real.

Pete, Thanks for sharing the construct pictures. I was wondering about those magnets and how they were used. I too will order some.  WBG Pete the peninsula is really looking good. I really appreciate all the step by step photos you have posted. Great learning tool for how to do scenery.  BAR GP7#63 How did you do the potato sacks?  Those are great as is your trackside scenery. LI Trains, great idea and work there. Something to help us fill the time. Norm always fascinating projects, unique buildings and great colors and weathering.  Dave, A&W coming along well. Keep us posted. Reminds me of the stand that was near my house back in the high school daze !!  Ray the  " L " structure and hotel pictures look like they were taken here in Chicago.

Recently I have turned my attention to the water scene on my layout. Finally adding some water effects and trying my hand at making a realistic looking waterfall. I'm happy with how it turned out so far. The larger fall under the bridge needs some work, but overall I think it's good for now! 

That is an impressive water scene. Well done.

Ok I'll bite! What are you now using since you got rid of the "duckunder"? Or you no longer want to go inside the layout unless it's necessary.

 Some great looking projects this week. 

  Norm, you are the master of great looking concrete. Chris, really nice scene with the waterfall.

 Still plugging along on my milk station. The ice house was a kit so I got quite a bit done seeing everything was there. Even though I’m still minus supplies. I did place everything on the layout to see how it would look. I got the roadway done leading into it. After much debating on how to do the crossing on already ballasted track. I placed the grade crossing planks from Blair Line. Then just tapered the slope with more ballast. After it dried. I used gravel on top of it. I still need to add more ground cover to the right. But I need that spot to kneel on when working.

 I actually removed a wye with 4 turnouts to do this. They had been there for 30 years. It got to the point. I never used it. No separation from the mainline and the yard. This looks much better. Sometimes less is more.

This showcase is one I wait for every week. Today's projects are absolutely  wonderful. I literally could go on and on about each post thus far. Norm, thanks for taking us from the beginning of your project to the end. I have always thought you had some kind of model railroad fairy come down and assist you with the type of results you get but now I'm sold...you are actually human. What do you paint your streets and sidewalks with?

Wow, Guys just some outstanding work this week!  Really Nice.

I finally got around to making some progress on the layout , just hand posted for a while.

Here is an elevated are for the city I have been working on, some fronts added that I picked up at York and just built up.

In the front of the layout, at you come down the stairs, I decide to add a cliff, and a "steel" trestle.  Here are some photos of the process.  The trestles are from customer model railroads in NJ.  Great guys to work with.  I started with a framing of work to support the bridge.

After the framing was complete I covered the area using crumpled up contraction paper I got a Lowes.  The process is similar to the process that Rich Batista highlighted in his video series.  I use a mix of hydrocal and strucolite for the plaster work.

Great builds! You all should be proud of yourselves.  It's amazing how much talent is showcased here. You put the HO guys to shame. And who said that O scale layouts are toy-like. 

On my layout I've been working on a harbor scene with a car float.  

The track hasn't been permanently installed yet on the float bridge as I have to add the water and also build the car float.

Is that a Summer St. Transfer kit? Or did you replicate it with the korber injection molded parts? Do you happen to have a parts list? I'm a fan of that kit, but its not easy to find. Probably just going to build one out of an engine house kit and have leftover parts...

Is that a Summer St. Transfer kit? Or did you replicate it with the korber injection molded parts? Do you happen to have a parts list? I'm a fan of that kit, but its not easy to find. Probably just going to build one out of an engine house kit and have leftover parts...

I is made with korber - pecos river parts, It was a defined kit but I don’t see it on the web site now.  I will look for the parts list.
