Sunday Scenic Showcase June 26,2022

Good morning, Alan, you need to put a picture book together of all of the items you have created over time!! I am sure it would be of interest to lots of us!! For a price of course!!!!    Again, thanks for taking the time to share these pics with us!!!

Looks like they have been in service for quite a while.  AWESOME weathering job!

I am jumping on the car band wagon. They look great.

Great stuff so far.......continuing with my freight building.....

I was able to get the gravel roof done and the garage doors placed before they insisted on playtime......

Alan - I thought the Lionel version was cool - now that’s spectacular. Great craftsmanship.

Don - I’ve always admired your layout and custom rolling stock. Even though I’m a Pennsy guy, that NYC jade green looks pretty great!

I’ve slowed down a bit on my cornerstone building upgrades, so just doing small details for now. Received the correct exterior lamp and installed it. Also added some silver window trim after being inspired by SIRTs kitbash of the same structure.

I was left with the smaller lamps I mistakenly ordered, so I repurposed one for a work bench. This is a model tech studios bench with some added paint/ printed papers added. Should look great in the upper windows of the shop.

The building’s “trick” is magnetic shadow boxes for each floor. Here’s the first one I’ve built for the office area. Kinda fun and it installs in a snap! Makes it really easy to detail the interior or pack it up for storage.  

In the coming weeks I plan to construct the large second floor, add interiors, and more detailing.  

All, fantastic showcase !! Alan I agree with the others, you should put your projects in a book. Jjames great weathering, Peter that freight building looks great. Thank you for all the pictures, they really are instructive. Alex liked what you have done to that building and the shadowbox with magnets and interior details are fantastic.

Great Idea! Msy I ask what king of magnets are you using and do you mount the magnets flush or countersunk and barely touching?

Great photos everyone, thanks.  Here are a couple progress photos from my Altoona Model Works branch line station build:

I'm trimming out the building, clamping until the glue dries.

Added the glazing to doors and windows, fixing with canopy glue.  I flipped some over to show the exterior

Next will be finishing the trim and starting the roof.

Thanks! I used ETHCOOL 3mm x 1mm magnets from Amazon.

The magnets on the building side were mounted directly to the interior wall. To account for the added ‘warts’, the shadowbox’s L bracket was set back 1mm from the open side. This accounts for the wall mounted magnet’s height and ensures things stay flush.

In total I used 6 magnets on the wall, and  6 on the shadow boxes L brackets. These things are pretty strong!

magnetic shadow boxes, genius!  I have long fretted over adding room details and this is a great technique, thanks for sharing.
