Good morning Alan,

I haven’t been on the Forum for a while and am not sure if I’ve posted these photos before. But here goes.

This cabin sits atop the hill at the northeast corner of my 12’-by-8’ layout completed in 2004. I built it from a kit but don’t recall the manufacturer. Its position at the rear corner of the layout effectively makes it a background building.

Thought I'd share my latest creation.  A few weeks ago I posted a metropolitan station I was working on. It needed a street vendor.  Sal's Italian Hot Dogs!  Named after my Father-in-law who loves them.

The base of the trailer is repurposed from a John Deere tractor set my son had as a youngster.
The 4 walls are plastruct building material
The Propane tanks are from an old model spru and some heat shrink tube
The Hot Dogs are wire insulation and heat shrink tube.
The Coke cups and straws are model spru and wire
The vent on top is a plastic nut from a toilet repair kit (pre-use)
The garbage can is a valve stem cap
The counter is actually a sign from a fence kit.  It says Cemetary on the bottom
The decals were made on my printer off of pics I found on the internet
The red and white checker on the bottom is from a model airplane kit
The awning is an old dress shirt

Lastly, I do not have too many nice people for the layout.  It seemed like the Police Man was the perfect figure for this scene with the mustard spill.  It is not meant to be disrespectful to Police.

This was fun to do.
Ron

A nice structure for background OR foreground, Mel!

Nicely done, Ron! A true scratchbuild, which makes it distinctive and unique. This kind of project would make an excellent "how-to" for the magazine. I can always use that type of article.

Great post and I learn something new every Sunday.

Dave, I love ugly locos and that one is really nice.

I got some scenery done on my layout. I still have to get figures and vehicles in place. My layout is only 12 x 16 but it is all the real estate I could get at this time.  That is one of the reasons I went with my favorite Mississippi shortline.  I’m not sure about my painted cotton field yet but I still have plenty of blue paint.

Brother Love, the art work background is really really good.  I enjoy viewing your scenes.

That is QUITE the cabin'... Mel, but I wouldn't want to slip off that porch'....😃

Alan, the house is gorgeous and I'm sure your mother thought so too. Totally a wonderful gift. Also I thought those tanks in the other post were probably yours.

Melgar, the house is wonderful but the added foundation gives it a lot of character.

Dave, I think your "ugly" diesel is beautifully 3RSed. Scenery in the background is awesome.

Pete, every time you post it's a treat. Can't wait to see the harbor.

Brother Love, I can't believe you say your scenery work isn't that good. Unless something's going wrong with me eyesight, I have to say you're totally wrong.

Some great work today fellas!

Dave

Dave,

Thsnk you, I still haven’t achieved  the “look” I’m going for.

But, I love this thread, so much talent to learn from.

Brother Love,

I certainly understand. There are things I have to go back and correct or in some cases, completely change because I don't care for it.  In some cases, despite what others say. Many times I know I don't care for it early on but want to "sit on it" for a little while. The great thing about it is we can always go back and change things, come to places like this for ideas, or in extreme cases use the talents of other people to help. I have had to use all three solutions and even in the extreme cases, I learn and can do it myself the next go around. If you're like me I know you want to do it and not look back, even though we will always find something we can do.

You clearly have an idea of what you want for your layout but we don't know what that is. What I see is some great modeling but hopefully, for your sake, you are able to achieve the level of satisfaction you want. You certainly deserve that to go with your amazing trains.

Dave
