Slowly coming along on the Sand House and Tower....

The edges of the sand bin didn't look right to me with the gray color showing. So I made some extra wood supports fron stirrers and painted them a wood color....

....next, the roof....

Since it's going on the modular layout in the yard, I needed to construct a base which I colored as weathered concrete....and, hope to finish the tower today....

Well this. Is. Tedious.

I didn’t want the wooden covers on these openings, so I 3D printed myself some windows that fit the openings.  That, of course means that I needed to open up the holes (carefully). The safest way I’ve found is I drill a bunch of holes, then use a small fine tooth saw to “connect the dots”. Precision isn’t really important yet, this is just mass material removal.

Once the big chunks are out, it’s a matter of sanding the opening until the window fits.
I used a couple sanding sticks to do the first one and it took forever.  So I got out the dremel and a sanding drum to do the other 2 and only did the fine fitting with the sticks.  That worked better.

It’s hard to be exact with the new openings, so I stuffed in some windows and filled the gaps around the frames with joint compound. The windows are expendable, I can print as many as I need.

That’s all I got for the moment.  I need to do this to the other panel too, I just didn’t have the patience to keep going and needed a break.

Morning everyone. Everyone’s structures in process look great. It’s always cool to see a wide variety of types and mediums.

Donald- really like that trackside piping and that neat scene you created.

Last weekend after a beer or two, I was inspired to save the 6 pack’s plastic collars. They seemed like something I could turn into a scrap pile.

This weekend, I combined that with some other leftovers to create a scrap pile. I originally built it as trackside junk pile, but adjusted the dimensions so it could fit inside a gondola as well. Along with the scrap, all I needed was some glue and acrylics. It ended up being a fun little project.
