Sunday Scenic Showcase May 3, 2020

A diesel fueling platform finally got installed on the layout. Part of the platform along with an MTH kit-bashed boiler house sits on an access panel for track cleaning. The made-from-scratch fuel columns came from an informative share by an OGR forum member. Still need to finish the fuel tanks.

Some progress on my Altoona Model Works 32” car shop. This is going to replace my current 24” version that doesn’t have the machine shop addition. I will probably sell off the old one at some point.

Painting the walls. I think I did it backwards. The end walls are now made of urethane, my original kit had them made out of hydrocal (I think):

I decided to extend the length of the machine shop pad:

I couldn’t bring myself to stripping the rails out of new Atlas track so I experimented with soldering a bunch of scrap rails. I made a crappy jig and used a 60W iron. It actually worked!

Some great work showcased from everyone so far. Arc I would love to see how those fuel columns were made. Pete your scenes look like they're from a model railroad magazine where I have my mouth open the whole time in awe. Norm, this is going to be one heck of a structure. You totally out-do yourself.

Alan and all great showcase again.  Alan, really nice facility. Piping, valves and stairs, signage, all looks so real.

ARC diesel platform came out really nice. any chance we could get closer look? The kitbash powerhouse is really a great kitbash, anymore details on that?

Sidehack, picture reminds me of my wanderings in the city in late 50's. Like I have been there.

Been working on a transformer complex to go with my SeaTrain Crane.   Still have some finish up work to do but made some progress. 

got the inspiration from a picture in the Evan’s modeling software under utilities with a little ad lib added.

thanks to Dennis Brennan and wife for getting me some wider fence fabric so i could do 12’ fence.

Hi Dave! The fuel column thread is titled “Build Your Own Fuel Columns” by OGR member Deuce. I substituted electrical wire for the hoses and used fuel nozzles from an Atlas deep rock & oil co. kit. I used the shed too.

The project looks spot on. You have an eye for detail. You already answered part of my question, I like Dennis's fencing. My question is how did you make the tips on the fence and the bars that stick out for the barbed wire to go on? That doesn't come with the kit, at least not the one I have.

Arc, thanks for the information and extra pics. The detail is great. I also like what you did with the shed with the concrete and weathering.

since the fence was 12 foot i had to use the jig a bit different but i think same concept will work for 8’ fences. but basically i treated each post like an end post and rather than have the top rail continuous i cut it at each post just like bottom rail. that left a little nub at top of each post. then i took 3/32” styrene tune cut a little collar to fit over the nub. if u run a 1/16” drill thru it it will slip over post. then i took some .060 square rod and cut one end at 30 degrees and glued it on the collar.  a little tedious but not bad. u can use some white glue to round the tops and i used thread for the wire.
