I built the North Tower, on my 12’-by-8’ layout, around 2003, from a Sterling Interlocking Tower kit #401 by Model-Tech Incorporated. I applied clapboard siding to the lower exterior rather than have it concrete and also revised the roof to look like sheet lead roofing material instead of the asphalt shingles that came in the kit. This layout is still in operation and unchanged since its completion in 2004.

Alan, do you have a plan for the structures you build or do you make a sketch to refer to as you build? Consistently outstanding work! Mel the tower is great! I like all of the details too. Steve, the toll booth is even better with the lights. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a tollbooth on a layout before, excellent work.

Mel’s work is always excellent. I am so glad you post on this thread.
Steve,
The toll booths look so real. I took route 35 to avoid them on my way back home this morning.
Andy,
the coal tower is being constructed from pictures and a drawing I made from that. I make a scale drawing for most of the things I construct.
Alan
Thanks Alan. I look forward to this thread every week.
I would also like to see STEAMFAN77 Andy post some updates of progress on his model of the Mineola shanty.

AL, I had thought about the Godfather scene.
Andy, I'm making something like Indy Dons overpass along with the Crow River 1930's cement supports and art deco sides. The "S" scale tollbooth will be up there, out of the way so it wont take up R.R. space.
Sirt,
Who does that layout belong to in the pic?
This all looks great, Joe.

That would be 2r Master Don Smith. Simply the best in the hobby!

Lots of nice work this week guys!
I only did a small amounts - I picked up some jun castings at York for TW Trainworx, and am painting them now.
I also started to demo a portion of the layout to change this to an elevated line

Thanks Mel! I would but I’m temporarily down and out with an injury. Soon as I can, I’ll get back to work.
Andy
Nice work Rich. The junk looks good. Looking forward to the changes you have planned.

Laying out the final details for this new version of Federal Servo after selling the old one at York. Trying to decide where I will mount the sign. Still need to paint and weather all the parts and then do the final weathering and touch up on the building. This one is actually lit with LEDs but it’s a bit of an experiment.
Alan, Steve, Melgar, Rich and Norm Outstanding and inspirational work again this week. Thanks all for sharing.

Norm, excellent work. What is your source for the ducting?
Rich, it’s a combination of Plastruct rectangular tube and Evergreen strip. The larger duct is .010” styrene sheet layered over balsa. My styrene work is a little rough. I think I need to try some better solvent at some point. The larger duct probably would have come out better if I used thin brass sheet I think. Maybe on the next one!
Norm, how did you frost individual window panes?
I made a styrene mask with random window openings and bombed it over with some clear and grimy black. I can flip the mask around for random-ish patterns. Still a work in progress, I may play around with the idea a bit more.
