Sunset Models Needs 20 More Reservations to make the Northern Pacific 2626/Timken

About two or three years ago I remember seeing the NP 4-8-4 on a preorder sheet from 3rd rail. There was no picture on their page - just a listing on a pre-order form on their web page. Fast forward to last year and I saw an ad in the TCA exchange for a brand new, never run, in the box 3rd Rail 4-8-4 from a previous release. I think it was 2003 - 2005 era. I went back to the 3rd Rail web page and no longer saw the NP Northern listed. I contacted Scott Mann and he stated that there were not enough pre-orders so it was not being offered anymore.

I pulled the trigger on the previous issue 2673 with gray boiler and am very happy with it. But, I haven't run it yet - it sits in a display case. Someday...

Ironically, a few months ago I was back on 3rd Rail's web page and saw the NP Northern listed again! However, the price tag is more than double what I paid for mine so I am happy that I went for the one I did.

You have got to be diligent in tracking down NP steam. Last year I also managed to get an MTH NP Challenger for $400 off list!

I love the Northern Pacific A-2 thru A-5 class northerns, but the class A and A-1 just don't do it for me. 

I hope you guys can scare up another 20 reservations.

Dave, the solution is simple. Just order yourself one of each version, for every day of the week.

Have you posted this with the NP Historical Society? 

The Timken 4 ACES looks like the SOUTHERN Railway scheme. The Southern Railway collectors should be reserving it.

I am with Jerry. Sunset is pretty sharp at figuring out the market, but if you disagree, you could market the other 20.  I like NP, and have a Challenger, but sort of lean GN and maybe Milwaukee for electrics.

All of the online references for this locomotive state it was used on 13 railroads and then mention four. New York Central, Chesapeake & Ohio, New Haven, and Pennsylvania.  Does anyone know the other nine roads?

Actually I like the Northern Pacific 2626, the four aces after it was purchased and rebuilt for the NP.
