A friend asked me at breakfast this morning if I could help him get an approximate value of a train of his that he wants to sell.  He said it is a Super O Military train: Blue Engine, Rocket shooting car, House that blows up, trannie, track, (he couldn't recall the other cars).  All still in the original boxes including the main outer one.  Never run.

He thinks the engine is 2597 but is only sure of the '25' part.

I told him I would ask you guys.  Who knows, maybe one of you is interested in it!!!

He said he can't put it on the bay with any min bid because he doesn't have a clue as to value.  To me it sounds like a winner for someone.

If no one here has any idea of value does anyone have an idea of how to get it evaluated???

He doesn't have a digital camera so I told him that I would take pictures for him, but that won't happen for a few days.

As always, thanks - walt

Walt:

It sounds like set #2527 from the 1959 catalog which has the blue Army missile launching diesel locomotive, an exploding ammo dump and a few other very desirable cars.

HTH,

I can't see Jim's picture. I think Bill has found the set you are referring to.

I'm into military Modern Lionel. Here is a picture of the Lionel Modern one I purchased new from a forum member a way back. Only BLUE Army I know of.

Good Luck

Larry

PS That #44 Sound box car in the second picture did not come with the set. If I remember it had about a MSRP of $179.00+ by itself.

After you and your friend determine which set he has, "google" the internet for previous auction results. A fellow on the bay just had one (2527) not sale for $550. The engine and cars were in great shape but the individual boxes had their share of wear and tape. Personally, I would establish a reserve price and let the bids begin.

Good luck to your friend...

enjoy your trains...

Thanks all.  Jim, I could not see your pictures.  I use Firefox.  Maybe I'll connect thru IE and see if I can see them.

I typically only see him at breakfast on Sundays.  I'll see if I can bump into him this Thursday and ask him if he'll bring the set Sunday so I can get photos.  I'll then post them there.

Jim: I suspect he never ran it because he's really not a train person at all.  I'll try to get more info though.

Finally, I mis-spoke a bit.  I think he said the SET was a 25xx, not the engine like I wrote above.

CoulstonR: thanks for saying that you may have some interest.

BTW: if everything is in the boxes, shouldn't I keep the boxes untouched just in case????  Especially if they are sealed in any way.

I would expect that the big outer box is not sealed since my friend knows what is inside, so that's not my concern.  He said that the boxes are in EXCELLENT condition and not all beat up or frayed.

Thanks - walt

I can't see either of them on Chrome

I'd suggest hosting them on Photobucket or Flickr, the present method isn't working.

If they're on your computer and not hosted online, nobody will see them other than yourself. The sites I mentioned allow you to host the photos online for free and link them here.

No problem. Photobucket is very easy to use. Quick sign-up, then hit a single button to upload, then link directly. I think they offer a tutorial as well, though I am not positive. I've been using it for roughly six years to host photos on a few car forums, and now here.

Take a photo

Save it as a JPEG on your desktop

Open a post or thread

Add attachment (as Mark indicated above) and select the photo on your desktop, or elsewhere on your computer. Select "insert into post body" (if desired) then select small or medium size for the image; then submit reply.

NO need to Photobucket or any of those things.
