I guessing that if I swap one AIU out for another that all things being equal there would be no change in the addressing of the items attached to it, (i.e. switches, specifically). Correct?
To clarify a bit more, I have an AIU with non functioning ACC ports, but switch ports work fine. I plan to use it temporarily for the 3 remain switches I have. When my new AIU comes in, I want to swap the two so that I then can continue wiring in accessories in that part of the layout.

Yes, that's correct.

As long as you wire them in identical fashion everything should work perfectly.
