I have switchstand lamps that operate mechanically from the throw bar. I consider them pretty much as traditional for appearances. As for determining Ross switch position--"through" on the main or "out" to a siding, I look to my track schematic for the controlling toggle handles position leaning toward either "through" or "out" as an indicator. Crude but simple and effective when operating from a control panel.
The on/off/on toggles control the DC Tortoise switch motors powered by a 12 VDC wall wart transformer. [Photo of my little track schematic shown below].
Small 9x16 round-the-room layout with 17 track switches.
Previously on a now dismantled layout I controlled 32 switches "walkaround" from Cab 1 via 7 ASCs.
