Hey all.. upgrading my 612 J steam... can you use the tach reader from the ps2 5 volt on the ps3? I noticed the spacer is too tall and it touches the flywheel... the wires are the same color and position.. they look identical... i figure i can solder the ps3 harness to the reader.

Are you using the ps2/3 hybrid board for the upgrade?
If a PS-3 Steam upgrade kit with PS-32 board, the answer is YES. A true PS-3 Steam production engine with a PS-3 boiler board, NO. G
Its the PS3 full steam kit with speaker and wiring and the bits. (Board is in tender) Teather to engine.
The Tach reader shim on the PS3 harness is too tall. Rather than unsolder the 4 points and try to remove that plastic shim, shave it down to correct thickness for the Airgap to the Flywheel, I though I would just use the PS2 Tach that is already there. I can show some pictures of what im talking about later. am I making sense?
Thanks
Chris
Yes you can just use the original Tach Reader. PS-3 Steam upgrade is really a PS-32 board which used bulb not leds. It is a replacement board for PS-2. So all the original stuff works. G
