Technically I believe they are Bradley Fighting Vehicles and not tanks. They are about half the size of an M1 tank. That sure is lot though. Wonder if they just came back from Iraq.

that was my thought, also.
Hey Cesar, I guess I don't know my tanks. Matt from the Forum sent this to me and I'm just passing it on. Don
I believe just about all they do At SAD is store mechanized vehicles...so, those are all, probably, headed to long-term storage.
I am not sure where the Bradley fits into the brigades the Army seems to be organized into these days.
Maybe someone can enlighten us...however, I don't recall the news showing too many Bradleys in the streets of Iraq...and they are probably just targets along the mountain roads of Afghanistan.

Bradley's are not tanks, and definatly less then half an abrams. . An A2 abrams is70 tons. It dwarfs the bradley. The bradley's sole mission is infantry deployment, cover fire, and evac.
Those are the wrong camo and wrong armor package for iraq. Looks to be turn ins or transfers from depot to rebuild.
The BFV is ok, but nothing tops driving 1500 hp abrams....

Yes those are M2 Bradleys, It appeared to me to be about a battalion size worth of vehicles, plus some support vehicles, the fuel HEMTTs in the middle of the consist.
My battalion used them in Iraq back in 05-06, they were rather effective for MSR security, which is basically patrolling the major highway in our sector with them and M1 Abrams. The thermal sights and optics are what made it effective, plus the big guns scare people.
To the best of my knowledge, the army was really phasing out the BFV for the Stryker. There are still "heavy" brigades and battalions using them, but less and less as the years go by.

Very cool video Here is mine in miniature
Thats a LOTTA Shermans!
hello guys an gals.......
tanks are death traps as they are easy knocked out with a RPG-7 even our modern heavy tanks don't have a chance against those. The same thing with large battle ships(the bigger they are the easier to sink it)"bigger the target easier it gets". I worked for the dept.of defense in 1980's

I have a friend who likes to date large women...
There were plenty of Bradleys in Iraq. My son drove one.
Does anyone know if there are published scale drawings for those military flat cars?
Folks,
Those Bradleys have European camouflage. Long term storage for them makes sense.
However, they are the later model. Maybe repaint and redeploy?

Abrams are tough. They can withstand an rpg. They've changed a lot since the 80's.

a couple years ago when i was stationed in washington dc, i did a two week field training exercise for new officer students at fort indian town gap, we had to barrow a bunch of humvee's from the guard unit across from the harrisburg farm show complex.... they were all the wooland camo pattern, they did have a couple in desert, but the older ones were used for training... they were pretty hard on them, in the two weeks, we had to get two towed back... we only took 8 from them....
Ed,
if they are going to Sierra it is for storage. Reset (repaint/refurbish) is done by BAE in York Pa.

There is also a facility near Uniontown,PA that has had scores of Bradleys and self propelled artillery on site. All have desert camo and have slowly had turrets, tracks, guns and wheels removed. They are generally stripped at this point.
It is interesting to pass by every few months on Rt. 19 and see the progression.

Norm, you are right. I haven't been down that way for awhile. Last time I went by they were stocked up with vehicles in both color schemes. I didn't see any without wheels. I was temped to stop in and ask if any were for sale. LOL
I'll have to make a trip down Rt 19 and check out the situation myself.

A couple of years ago there was a very large number of what looked to be M-551 Sheridans all lined up for stripping. The Sheridan would be a very nice little tank to have in 1:48 as would the M-24 Chaffee.

Don, thanks for posting the video...very cool to see.
Ben, I enjoyed your O gauge version.

Don,
You always come up with the coolest videos and pictures!
As mentioned previously, thank you so much for sharing!
A note: we have a large supply of any and all of those vehicles up at
Camp Shelby. Used for training, but if one is traveling on some of the back
Roads, it is "unerving" to have one of those come crashing out of the Forrest
And cross the road in front or back of you ! There are "driver beware" signs
Posted along these rural roads and that usually keeps everybody a alert.

At one time or another, MTH has produced flatcars with tank loads that included the Pershing, Sherman, and M-1a.
MTH did the flatcars with 2 M1 Abrams in a couple of versions, the flat with two Shermans in a few different versions, the flats with one Sherman in a few different version and they have announced the flat with Pershings but I dont think they have been delivered yet

I sure hope they haven't been delivered yet because I have a couple of those sets on my "want" list.
Nice videos by all of you;
MTH website shows July 2012 delivery.
I need to get a set on order myself to add to the set I got last year.
Superwarp, Looking good, not sure what is in those 2 gons tho. I'd load ammo crates and fuel in them.

The flats with the Pershings from the 2012v1 catalog have been cancelled.
I remember at the time they were cancelled, MTH stated that they wouldn't be able to get the Pershings. Hopefully, this is only a temporary issue.

Ben , always liked how the NJhirailers does their tank train. really cool.
according to tank commander I know that was in Iraq, they were not used much after the initial invasion. They were the best moving fighting ground machine ever made. RPG's have little or no effect. Not used in urban combat to any great extent where multiple RPG's can be launched at once.
MTH m1a: ITs a bit under scale
