Hi! I was planing on running a single track from one "depot" to another depot and use a teardrop turnaround to run it back on the same track, but I am now thinking that won't work from an electric standpoint.
Yes- three rail AC makes this simple. Power to the center rail never changes and both outer rails are common so no polarity issues when the train reverses. Two-rail DC (HO typically) requires more wiring and a reversing relay but it's doable.
Just remember that the loop limits the length of trains that you can run. Also make sure the insulating pins are on the correct rails for the anti-derail to work properly.
