If I want to run a loco that has been idling for awhile is there any way to tell on the handheld what direction it's going to go? Is the only way the headlights and/or guessing while increasing throttle?
I might be missing something totally obvious on the handheld.

No, there is not.

Yes, that's correct.
However, while I haven't tried it, one other thing you could do is press Startup while the engine is stationary. That should ensure that the engine points forward.
Headlight is the only way I know, If stopping, using the double tap on the break will leave the engine in the same dir rather than using the direction button......I suppose you could shut down the engine and restart ,it should move out in forward.

As I posted above, just pressing Startup while the engine is stationary should cause it to next go forward.

Cool tip Barry, I didn't realize that. It's nice that it doesn't change anything else about the started locomotive, just makes sure it's going forward.
If you want to insure you go in reverse, just use the STARTUP and then the DIR button. Handy...

That is a great tip. So simple yet one of those things I never caught on to. There have been countless times I've started a DCS engine in the wrong direction.
Ill use this tip daily. Most likely get into the habit of automatically pressing the start button before moving an engine when I am moving a bunch of them about.
