Testing a Lionel Station Sounds car | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

I am not sure if this is the correct forum but, is there a simple way to test a Lionel station sounds car to see if it works? I bought it at a garage sale but there weren't any instructions in the box with it. It is the Lionel 6-39104 E-L Pocono SS Diner. I would be using an MTH 1000 power unit. BTW, the interior lights work. Thanks in advance for any help the forum can provide.
