Does the Texas special Pa's legacy controls work like the later Pa's? Smoke unit only in motor unit?

I am not sure I know which PA's you mean. My AF by Lionel Legacy PA/PA set from the 2017 catalog (purchased in PRR Green livery) have a smoke unit in both the powered and the unpowered unit.

Here is a picture of theLionel AF Legacy PA/Pa set. Both units are smoking the same amount, the angle of the window light affected the visibility of the smoke from the rear PA.

That set came out in 2014 and the dummy unit only has a head light no smoke unit.
