Do any of you have a method to recommend to simulate a thatched roof when scratch building a European structure? Thank you for any ideas and expertise.

I saw one some time ago. He used a old broom for the thatching. It really came out well.
Randy, as a short cut, if you want one, is to consider D56 buildings in the Dickens Village collection. They did many thatched rook structures, and although porcelain, they really look terrific. You should find many of them in the secondary market at dirt cheap pricing.

Here are some pictures of an English Mott and Bailey castle I did. The thatch is Woodland Scenics tall weeds cut in half and glued on in layers. Let the color vary. This is new thatch, it greys as it ages. There are several interesting articles if you Google thatch roofing including how to do it in 1:1 scale.
