Being a primarily a scaler, I don't go to the Fall S Fest with great expectations.
Scale models at the Fests can run hot or cold, there's no predictability it and it's not dependent on location. But, I can usually find something I can use or scalify.
Sometimes, there are surprises. This was one of them.
I bought this kitbashed SD9 from a third party seller, so I don't have all the gory details about it's construction. But what I do know is that it's bashed from two American Models GP9 shells with a River Raisin drive.
The work is well done, I even had a hard time finding the seam inside the shell. It's got a couple of battle scars and the handrails need a little TLC as some of the stanchions have worked loose.
While not a 100% accurate model of an SD9, it's a good representation and once the "five foot rule" is invoked, the inaccuracies disappear.
The model is straight DC, with two 12v lamps in the short hood headlights. Other than repairing the loose handrail stanchions, I plan to replace the lamps with LED's. Maybe a DCC decoder when I have nothing else to do. It's a "good enough" model not to otherwise mess with, scars and all.
As appropriate for Wisconsin, the model was packed in a cheese box.
And less than $200.
