I think I fried he mother boards on my 2 Lionel Neil Young Texas specials F3s when I tried to program them not knowing I had Cab 1 and Cab 2 attached when I was transitioning to the Cab 2.  I have followed all directions on programming these types with no avail. I brought it  in to a long time Lionel service person here in Colorado with no positive result. Thank you for any future help, Ken

I recommend you find a repair person better qualified to service these Legacy diesels. It's really not that hard to troubleshoot. Both the powered and non-powered units are driven by RCMC cards.  Perhaps you experienced a rogue power surge that blew both PCB's simultaneously. That's about $250 for parts alone, without labor. On the other hand, maybe something else is going on related to setup and operation.

To the best of my knowledge, having both a CAB1 and CAB2 attached to the same to a #990 Legacy Command base/charger will not damage your trains. I have been operating Legacy equipment for years using both controllers interchangeably.
