Thomas Set "Steam Noise" Stuck On

Hi! We've had a fast-track O-gauge Thomas set for a few years (thank you grand-dad!), and are setting it up under the Christmas tree. I know about the normal reset process for the steam noise (while powered throw the switch under the cab roof, then unpower the tracks, wait a few seconds, and repower). However, this hasn't been working this year (the noise is stuck on, which is really irritating my wife). Are there any known problems like this? Might the switch need to be replaced? Is this possible?

Can you shoot some contact cleaner in the switch and toggle it several times while it is still wet?
