Hey Guys.  I am at the point of running wire. And this is what I have pulled so far. 1.  18-7

         1.   Cat 5  Orange

         1.   # 14  Red   or   Yellow

         1.   # 14   Black  or  Brown

These wires are for the switches  and I have 32 of them. I am using Tortoise switch switches 800-6000.

and I am using ATLAS #6924 Non-Derail Boards. Am I running enough wire for each switch Machine ? I have not ran anything for power yet. I plan on running # 14 stranded red & black  And running #14  stranded  Yellow & Brown. And the layout will be broken into 4 power feeds.

So with this said Am I running every thing needed?

I an wireing the Atlas O-20 Texas Western Layout With The yard Extended  and a couple extra switches.

Am I missing any wire runs?

Am I running The proper gage wire?   Do I need to change any wires

I just want to Thank You all for any advice you offer.  Scot

Here is a good thread where I was asking about the 6924 boards. There are a couple of Atlas-O wiring diagrams and some pretty detailed replies explaining things depending on what all you are using the 6924's for and how you are using them. I think all of the functions of the 6924's were covered.  Anyway it might assist you in making sure you are pulling enough wire to each device.

Atlas turnouts & 6924 circuit board questions

You are welcome. Kind of surprised you didn't get more folks chiming in here. Guess it's the middle of the off season. You are way ahead of me on the wiring, I haven't started yet or might have been able to offer more info. The 6924's do a lot of stuff and have many possibilities for wiring.

I just looked back through that thread and did not see any fuses mentioned. Mike CT had told me somewhere about some 3 amp fuses he had to add for I believe the power routing? I will look around some more, I know I saved all that info, just have to find it again. If I can find that I will post it for you if you want.

Ok, found the fuse, it's in the Atlas wiring diagram: Atlas-O 6924 POWER ROUTING INSTALL.pdf from the thread posted above. Mike CT just explained it's use. Haven't found that info yet. Wish I would have done this while everything was fresh!

         1.   Cat 5  Orange ????  Not sure what this is to be used for.

         1.   # 14  Red   or   Yellow   ???? track power feed for power routing.

         1.   # 14   Black  or  Brown  ???? track power feed. for power routing.

Tortoise switch machineClick on the underlined phrase to link.  These are pretty good pieces of equipment, that stall once the throw is complete, unlike the Atlas switch motors that require momentary power/then off, or the switch motor will burn out.  They also include (2) sets of NC/Common/NO contacts in the switch machine.  Most wiring for the switch can be done at the location. (1.) Power routing if required and (2.) Switch indication if required.  Also it only requires (2) DC wires from a Double Pole/Double Throw Cross Over switch to make it function.   There is a wiring diagram shown, Click in the underlined phrase.  Note that the terminals on the Tortoise switch machine are relatively small and may not work well with 18 gauge wire.

Questions??

(1.)  How many switches are paired cross overs?

(2.)  Are you controlling all switches from one location?

(3.)  Each Tortoise switch would require:

         (2) wires back to the control location to operate

         (2) wires, if you require switch indication lights at the control location.

Total of (4) wires X maximum for 32 switch motors.  Some switch motors may be paired cross overs, which would reduce the need for 32.  A Minimum (4)wire cable feeds back to the control location.  If you are into spares wires, (or are providing track circuit power to the switch location from the control panel add two more wires.   Power routing can be easily done at the switch location with the Tortoise switch.

Each switch from the control panel would be a six (6) wire cable.

and I am using ATLAS #6924 Non-Derail Boards. With the Tortoise switches I don't see a need for the 6924 boards at this time.  Am I running enough wire for each switch Machine ? I have not ran anything for power yet. I plan on running # 14 stranded red & black  And running #14  stranded  Yellow & Brown. And the layout will be broken into 4 power feeds.

You need to get one Tortoise switch machine up and running, the way you want,  to confirm the actual wiring and hardware you need. IMO.  Mike.

That's a start.
