A TIU is the Track Interface Unit which is part of the MTH command control system.

Lionel  also has an early command control system known as TMCC and a newer compatible system known as Legacy.

Wow......this is what I needed. When I read what you all discuss on the forum I was getting lost. I grew up with the old Lionel stuff from after the Great War. In those days changing brushes in a steamer or diagnosing a whistle shack was about the extent of it.

Hawkshaw, once you run trains with Digital control-conventional just won’t cut it.
