I wanted to post a short summary regarding the above video that came out a few weeks ago, something that was available at thtis past York show from TM Videos/Books.

Another video in a series of hi-rail layouts and clubs from around the country. This one details the Vargas brothers from California who build custom layouts for clients in their home state. You see the 2 of their custom layouts in this video and the highly detailed work they do.

2nd up is a video from my own club that I belong to, The Ocean County Society of Model Railroaders located in Lakewood, NJ and gives you a very good look at our club with an interview from some of our members. Our club was recognized by MTH with the Blue Comet Award for the work we do outside of the club in setting up layouts and static displays at various locations in Ocean County of NJ. We extend ourselves to non-train public this way and promote the hobby. The video shows our detailed layout that has been in operation for close to 20 years now.

Lastly, the video goes to the National NY Central RR Museum which shows their detailed, multi-level layout.

If you have not purchased the #3 video in this series, it is another excellent review of some of the detailed layouts in the USA from TM Videos/Books.

There are train shops and dealers (other than TM) that sell these videos at a discount (usually around $15) - I see some at local train shows, but don't know of any online.  I think that TM sells at MSRP so as not to compete with their wholesale customers.

There is an LCCA open house Special Event at TM Books &Video facility on Saturday 6-9-12.  You will also be able to see Tom's private and personal collection of toy trains.  Lionel's Mike Reagan will be there also.   Come and meet with Tom McComas in person.   For more details, go to the special events page on the LCCA website www.lionelcollectors.org.  If you have questions please call me at 248 709-4137.  If you are not a member, you can sign up and join the LCCA at the same website.

We he to see you there.

Ben,

One of these days I'll take the 1000-mile trip and visit you guys!

Al,

That really sounds like fun, but over six hours away for me, and I don'tthink I'll be able to make it.

I went ahead and ordered the DVD from Amazon, for the regular price. But since I am a 'Prime' customer (*), the 2-day shipping is free.

Thx!

Alex

By the way, the Amazon Prime memberhip costs $79 a year, and includes free 2-day shipping on lots of items. I have bought LED reels, power supplies, Elmer's One-Gal glue, pre-plastered cloth, DVD's, tools, batteries, and a host of other things, many of which I would have bought at the retail store, but at the Amazon competitive prices. And by not having to drive to the store, not paying sales taxes, and with free shipping, I know I have more than paid for the membership even though I joined only four months ago.
