Do you have the Lionel stock number ( 6-xxxxx) for this engine?
Most likely if it was built in the 2000s you will be able to use an Electricrr Cruise M and just replace one board with this one. They are reasonably priced and easy to install requiring you solder just one wire.
Pete
If DC motors yes. If AC pullmores no. G
a1hobo,
FYI, EOB has not been manufactured for many years. Even if you were to find a kit somewhere, it is not the best choice, especially for diesels.
As Pete and G stated, if the engine has DC motors you can add ERR's Cruise M to get cruise control.
I don't care which system would give cruise control as long as it works with the TMCC. Now I don't know a whole lot about which motors are in it. I think it's a earlier version of the C420 run. Box number 6-28505. Anyway to tell which motors are in it?
This is your engine. It has DC motors and modular electronics which means its a perfect candidate for and Electric RR Cruise M. Best bet is to contact Boxcar Bill on this forum.

A1hobo,
Before you pull the trigger the early C420's used a C07 radio board. The cruise "M" needs a C08 radio to function. If you install a C08 you will lose headlight and will need to rewire.
Bill
Ok it is sounding like I might have a good candidate for cruise. Now since all this is way above my head I will need to find someone who has the knowledge on how to do all this. I am having trouble on just trying to get traction tires changed. That's a whole different story in another post. For a pretty mechanical guy these digital engines are starting to make me feel like real incapable.

Just to clarify for me, Bill, the regular ERR Cruise Commander (not the M version) would work for this engine, though, wouldn't it?
No, Since this is already a modular engine with Mother board you only need to replace the Motor drive section with the modular Cruise M. The Cruise commander has the header for the R2/4LC which isn't needed with a TMCC mother board engine. G
If you want to use the CC-M, you need to change the R2LC for the C08 version, but there's no reason to go with the full Cruise Commander as that creates an issue with the RailSounds boards, no home. You don't really want to have to buy the RailSounds Commander as well.
Bill, can you swap the wires for the headlight to get the correct polarity? Is that the rewiring you speak of?
I've extracted the wiring and parts for this locomotive from the Lionel Supplements and attached it to this post.

John,
Swapping the wires won't help. The lights (LED's) on these engines are not that great, you need a magnifying glass to see the glow. I would install new led's and rewire if you are going to install a Cruise "M".
Bill
I probably would too, but I was thinking of the simple way to get the lights working. I've never done an upgrade in one of these, so I haven't had to try to get the lights working with an R2LC upgrade.
