I have recently obtained a cab-1 tmcc system and trying to convert my layout over to remote control.   I have enough Sc1's  to do all my switches.  Lionel switches I have no problem, but gargraves  switches have been set up to be thrown by a N-J twin coil. The problem I am having is that the Lionel manual that came with the SC-1's indicates I have to hook up 12volt AC 1 amp relays.  I have no idea of relays.  I have called the source (radio shack) and a number of electronic stores in my area.  Not to many people seem to know what it is I'm looking for.  Apparently I need two relays for every N-J twin coil.  I have about 12 switches in my yard operated by toggle switches.  And I am at the point where I would like to up grade my control pannel as well.  Any help with relays would be greatly appreciated  as well as design software with a control panel would be of help.  Thanks to all.

FWIW, got some of these last fall in DPDT, they are nice and fairly reasonably priced. Base available & listed below. Also available in DPDT, 3PDT, 4PDT and other voltages.

12 VAC Relay

When bad link page comes up enter this part number   781-1C-12A

Sorry, but no matter what I tried, can't get the actual link to work here, even tried the long version?   Guess you have to be smarter that the stuff you are working with, not the first time I've had the problem!

I have done some research on sc2 and think your advice is good. At the time I wasent sure what I needed SC-2 if they don't need relays it would save a lot of wiring and expense when you weigh time and parts. So all eight of these Sc-1's will only operate Lionel fixed voltage switches and two accessories. Where a SC-2 will operate 4 switches and 4 accessories or 6 Switches. That is a better choice thank you for the solid advice.
